Rugged Devices Run Down
Does your business have field workers?
Are they often out and about, facing harsh or unpredictable environments?
Are you fed up with replacing devices or paying for repairs?
Modern smartphone devices usually have edge-to-edge screens as part of their sleek design. This can make them impractical and expensive to repair or replace. Plus, for workers out in the field, carrying an impractical device can lead to it simply not being used. Therefore, rugged devices are becoming increasingly popular among businesses.
Most of the rugged devices on the market have been made with good batteries that will allow field workers to use them all day long. They are also dust, drop and water proof. Some devices undergo rigorous drop testing from around 1.8m onto concrete. Others are waterproof in 1.2m of water for 35 minutes. Ultimately, they’re built with durability in mind.
There is a huge range of devices that all have different features available to you. The industry you’re working in will affect which device you choose. For example, a feature such as a thermal imaging camera may be really important to you. Or, you may simply need something that is waterproof. If the weather often impacts your workforce, you may choose to go for something with an optimised screen, that can be used in the wet, or bright sunlight.
It has been suggested that in the future, ruggedness will cease to be a feature that categorises phones, rather, it will be a standard feature of most phones.
Our next rugged blog will give you a bit more information about some of the different devices available.
