5 Tips for iOS 12
iOS 12 has been around for a while now. Though it came with fewer feature additions than some of the previous iOS updates, there are still some things that you may have missed…
1. ICE
While not new to iOS 12, this is still a feature worth knowing about. In the Health app, you can edit and update your Medical ID. This is accessible to anyone without your passcode. In the case of an emergency, people are able to access information that may help. You can add items such as your DOB, medical conditions, allergies, blood type and emergency contacts.
2. Share and edit in iCloud drive
You can use the iCloud drive in the Files app. Choose Add People to share documents over Messages or Mail. Edits are updated automatically so you all have access to the most recent version. You are able to store any type of file in your iCloud drive and there are a range of storage plans to choose from.
3. Respond to notifications quickly
The Notification Centre had a spruce up in iOS 12. If you receive a notification while using your phone, you can respond without leaving the app you’re currently in. Simply pull it down to do so. Alternatively, you can slide the notification up and move it to the Notification Centre for later. Additionally, you have more control over how your notifications are delivered. Choose to group them by app, turn them off altogether, or force ‘Deliver Quietly’. This will push them straight to the notification centre without alerting you, so you can simply go to them when you’re ready.
4. Control your screen time
We’re all culprits of occasionally spending too long on our phones, but Apple have now made this easier to keep track of. Under Settings, you can find the Screen Time feature, which allows you to control or limit how long you spend on your phone. There’s also the flexibility to set up restrictions on specific apps, allowing you to either limit certain types (e.g. social), or block particular ones from ever being restricted. Perfect for limiting how long you spend on your work phone at the weekend, or stopping procrastination on social media.
5. Organise your notes
With added functionality in notes, you now have the option to pin notes to the top of your list so they’re right where you need them. Simply swipe right and up they go. To keep your notes private, swipe left and tap the lock to protect them with a password. If it’s the first time you have done this, you will then be prompted to create a password to use for all your notes. After this, you can use Touch ID to access them instead.
We’ll be back with more iOS 12 tips soon but we hope these helped!
